Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes Page 2 <br />December 14, 2022 <br />----------------------------- <br /> <br /> <br /> Commissioner Anderson thanked Mr. Schumacher for doing the project and <br />stated it’s the most visible Eagle Scout project ever. <br /> <br />6.2 Eagle Scout Presentation – Brycen Jones <br /> <br /> Mr. Jones presented his solar panel picnic table project. The project was originally <br />started by students at University of St. Thomas in 2017 and some components may <br />need to be upgraded. The project is being funded by the Energy City budget. Mr. <br />Jones will do the structural design and make it handicap accessible, he will work with <br />the Parks Superintendent to coordinate the picnic table with the existing park <br />features and install the table and solar panels. The anticipated completion will be <br />summer of 2023 and it will be located at Orono Park. The community benefits will <br />be an outdoor workspace, a new way to enjoy Orono Park, powered by clean energy <br />and can be an inspiration for potential Eagle Scouts. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Soltvedt asked what size the structure will be. It was discussed among <br />the commissioners and said it will be 10x10. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Rathbun asked if there are batteries in the storage box. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jones said that might be one of the components that needs to be upgraded and <br />if there are batteries they may need to be removed in the winter. <br /> <br />7. Action Items <br /> <br />7.1 2023 Commission Meeting Calendar <br /> <br />Mr. Hecker shared the staff report and stated the October meeting will need to be <br />moved to the third week. <br /> <br />Commissioners discussed the options and decided on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. <br /> <br />Moved by Commissioner Soltvedt and seconded by Commissioner Niziolek <br />to meet the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in 2023, except for <br />October which will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
