The
County recognizes that access to high-speed broadband serice has become a basic nece5sity for
businesses and residents to be able to access critcal services and participate in the current
marketplace. In respanse to that ned, the Caunty has deelopec a Broadband AcceSs Grant
Program to help broadkand providers extend their services to those locations where it may not be
economically feasible without a public-priate partnership. l7nder the County's Program and in
partnership with the State of Minnesota's Borcfer to Border Broadband Program, Arig has now
appiied far a grant as part of a projeet that will bring high-speed braadband to approximateEy 42
homes (27 unserved and 15 undersered) and businesses within the City of Elk Rier. I am
therefore writing to inform you of Arig's request and to ask that the City of E1k River consider
partieipating with the County in facilitating this exciting project for the City's residents and
busjnesses. A copy of Arig's application is attached to this letter.
Because the Cpunty has limited funds aailabie far its Grant Program, local participaiion from the
City where the project is located is being requested. For the praject innled here, Arvjg has
applied for $167,795.38 in grant assistance ($542,651 total project costJ. Based an the size of the
grant request and pro}ect in general, the County is requesting the City of Elk Rier contribte 25%
of the grant request or $41,950.
We laak forward to working with you to help bring high-speed braadbad service to this area of
the city that is curently undersered or not served at all. We ask that if you are intereted in
