Request for Action <br />To Item Number <br />Ma Tor and Ci T Council 4.17 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Consent December 19, 2022 Cal Pormer, City Administrator <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Finance and Recreation Reorganization Lauren Wi er, Human Resources Mana er <br />Reviewed by <br />Action Requested <br />Approve, by motion, the reorganization of the Finance and Recreation Departments and management structure. <br />Background/Discussion <br />With the retirement of Finance Director Lori Ziemer, two previous reorganizations that moved the Building <br />Maintenance Division to Public Works and Parks Maintenance from Parks and Recreation to Public Works, and <br />the removal of two recreational facilities from the inventory an opportunity is presented to merge two <br />departments for a more effective management structure and save some staffing costs. <br />On December 5, 2022, the City Council discussed a merged department led by an assistant city administrator <br />position who would lead the following divisions: Finance, IT, Recreation, Liquor Operations, and the <br />Multipurpose Facility (Furniture & Things Community Event Center). Following the discussion, the Council <br />expressed a consensus of support. <br />Financial Impact <br />The transition would account for a cost savings by hiring the new director level position at Step A of Grade 3E <br />instead of the budgeted high end of 2E.
