UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:FROM:
ERMU Commission Mike Tietz –Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
October 11, 20226.1i
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• In September, the locators processed 495 locate tickets. These consisted of 2 emergency
tickets, 405 normal tickets, 62 updated tickets, 8 cancellations, 14 meets, 1 non-
excavation, and 3 boundary surveys. This resulted in a 17.5% decrease in tickets from
the previous month and a 27.4% decrease from the prior September.

• Electrical Technicians completed 293 service order tasks, updated the power bill,
addressed customer meter issues, and any off-peak concerns.

• On September 23, staff ran generators #1 & #2 without incident. Engines #3 & #4 were
turned over but not ran. There is no update on the repair of the replacement exhaust
bellow for Engine #4. I am expecting it to be returned any day now.

• Mapping department continues to work on GIS updates, GPSing splices and assets. We
are still planning to upgrade our GIS server from version 10.7.1 to 10.9.1 on October 13.
The mapping and IT/OT technicians along with Great River Energy staff have been
preparing for this upgrade to make sure everything goes smoothly.

• The substation apparatus technician completed collection of equipment oil samples for
annual testing. We have determined there is a mechanical issue with the regulator along
Highway 10. It is still functional but is no longer tracking the number of operations. We
will get this on the schedule to replace the bank this fall.

We will be doing load tap changer maintenance on bank 3 at Station 14 this week along
with replacing feeder #42’s recloser control. During this maintenance, we will also be
replacing the relay panel for both banks at that substation.

• I have completed the submission of our application for RP3 designation. As a reminder,
this designation recognizes the contributions and efforts of the whole team in being a
Reliable Public Power Provider.
______________________________________________________________________________
Page 1 of 1
105
