______________________________________________________________________________

UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING

TO:
ERMU Commission
FROM:
Mike Tietz –Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE:
September 13, 2022
AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
6.1i
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None

DISCUSSION:
• In August, the locators processed 600 locate tickets. These consisted of 6 emergency
tickets, 502 normal tickets, 65 updated tickets, 10 cancellations, 2 corrections, 6 meets,
1 non-excavation, and 8 boundary survey. This resulted in a 4.9% increase in tickets
from the previous month and an 4.0% decrease from the prior August.

• Electrical Technicians completed 269 service order tasks, updated the power bill,
addressed customer meter issues and off-peak concerns.

• On August 25, staff ran generators #1 & #2 without incident. Engines #3 & #4 were
turned over but not ran. The replacement exhaust bellow for Engine #4 was returned to
the manufacturer to correct their manufacturing error.

• Mapping department has been working on GIS updates, GPSing splices and assets. We
are planning to upgrade our GIS server from version 10.7.1 to 10.9.1 on October 13. The
mapping and IT/OT technicians are doing extensive prep work to make sure that this
process goes smoothly with minimal interruption of mapping services.

• The substation apparatus technician had to update the substation real-time automation
controller again due to a potential security vulnerability that was identified by the
manufacturer. We have been collecting equipment oil samples for our annual testing a
little earlier this year. Also, we have a regulator along Highway 10 that appears to be
malfunctioning. We need to investigate this further and may have to change out the
bank if it is found to be a mechanical issue inside the regulator.

• Orders were placed for the replacement of two pickup trucks for the technical services
department and one SUV for the General Manager. I am expecting them to arrive in Q1
of 2023 based off the production schedules. Notably, all three will be Ford Hybrids.

115
