West, Fire Chief <br /> <br />DATE: October I 7, 2005 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Bid Approval for Fire Station #1 Addition <br /> <br />On behalf of the Elk River Fire and Ambulance Service, I am requesting City Council approval for <br />the successful bid and the awarding of the contract for the addition to Fire Station #1 located at 415 <br />Jackson Avenue. The Elk River Fire and Ambulance Service received twelve bids from general <br />contractors located throughout the Twin Cities for Fire Station #1 addition with bid opening on <br />October 6, 2005 at 2 p.m. After reviewing all of the bids and checking the references of the apparent <br />low bid ofTDJ Construction, Inc., the Elk River Fire and Ambulance Service would like Council <br />approval to move forward on Fire Station #1 addition. <br /> <br />TDJ Construction, Inc. bid is $480,860 and after consulting with Dan Pellinen from Tushie <br />Montgomery and successful reference checks on past construction projects, the Elk River Fire and <br />Ambulance Service look forward to construction beginning on the addition to Fire Station #1 on <br />Tuesday, October 18, 2005. Along with approval of TDJ Construction's bid, will also be approval <br />for alternate #1 which is replacement of the existing four garage doors of Fire Station #1 in the <br />original 1972 portion of the station. Alternate #1 approval has been discussed with Finance and <br />Administrative Services Director Lori Johnson and is a 2006 budgeted item to be paid by the City of <br />Elk River as part of the construction project. <br /> <br />The Elk River Fire and Ambulance Service is very excited to have the application process, <br />authorization for advertisement of bids, bid opening, and Council approval nearly completed and <br />construction beginning on the Fire Station #1 addition. The Elk River Fire and Ambulance Service <br />would like to thank all the companies who submitted bids for the addition.
