TIle school
district .volunteered to accept the flag pole; ho\ve\Ter, tlle actual relocation of dle flag pole is
going to be on City property directly east of tlle County _Adrn.inistration building in the old
I<ing A \lenue rigllt-of-\vay. In dus regard, sellool superintendent Allan Jensen and I ha\re
discussed the situation and \ve both belie\re tllat it is more appropriate for tlle City to retain
o\vnerslup and maintenance responsibility for dus community asset. The City ,rery much
appreciates the \villingness of tlle sellool district to step fOl\vard and accept the flag pole so
tllat it could be retained in tlle do\vnto\vn area, but in tile final analysis it turns out tllat tlleir
assistance is not necessary.

The flag pole is seb.eduled to be relocated someti1ne in October. Tile City \vill retain
responsibility for maintenance of the flag pole and of dle flag and for tlle grounds
surrounding tlle flag pole (concrete brick pavers are no\v being planned for tllls area). If
anyone llas questions regarding dus situation, please feel free to contact me.

S:\ADlvIIN\P.Al'\2005\0921 council flag polememo.doc
