<br />- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />MINUTES OF TIlE ELK RIVER PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING <br />HILD AT THE ELK RIVER'PUBLIC LIBRARY <br />JULY 19. 1988 <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Chairman Kropuenske. Commissioners Johnson. Fuchs. <br />Olsen & Kimball <br /> <br />Members Absent: <br /> <br />Commissioner Barrett and Morton <br /> <br />Staff Present: <br /> <br />Stephen Rohlf. Building and Zoning Administrator. <br />and Greg Korstad. City Attorney <br /> <br />1. Pursuant to due call and notice thereof. Chairman Kropuenske called the <br />meeting of the Elk River Planning Commission to order at 7:05 p.m. <br /> <br />Chairman Kropuenske started the meeting by stating that this was an <br />informational meeting. not a public hearing. It was strictly to ask <br />questions of Chris Kreger. Vice President of the Elk River Landfill and <br />allow the citizens of Elk River an additional opportunity to voice <br />concerns. He further indicated the Planning Commission will be <br />conducting a public hearing in regards to this subject on July 26. 1988. <br />but that no City Council public hearing date has been established at this <br />time. <br /> <br />2. Chris Kreger gave a slide presentation at this time. <br /> <br />Chairman Kropuenske opened the floor to the public. <br /> <br />Mr. Jim <br />liner. <br /> <br />Church of Lavonia Township questioned the life expectancy of the <br />Could Elk River Landfill guarantee it would not leak? <br /> <br />Discussion was held on monitoring the wells and how deep these wells are. <br /> <br />Mr. Kreger stated that 95% of the garbage comes from outside Sherburne <br />County. <br /> <br />The subject of ash disposal was discussed. Staff indicated ash disposal <br />was not part of this current license request. <br /> <br />Household waste was also discussed. Tom Wood stated Elk River should set <br />up some mechanism for residents to dispose of such waste. Steve Rohlf. B <br />& Z Administrator noted that the City will be actively trying to <br />encourage recycling. <br /> <br />Tom Woods read an article about hazardous ash. He stated that Elk River <br />should take an active roll in recycling in our own town. Too much is <br />said and not done. We should charge people by the amount of garbage they <br />generate. <br /> <br />One resident stated that the City should put notices important to the <br />public in bold letters in the paper. It would make it more noticeable to <br />the public. <br />
