Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Elk River City Hall January 20, 2022 Commission Griffiths moved to spend $250 for the 83 photos and was seconded by Commissioner Fox. Mr. Leeseberg indicated this would be dependent on available budget. The commission understood. 5.2 Elk River Aviation Article Commissioner Mauren gave a brief update on the project. The commission felt it was well written and did not realize there was that much aviation history in Elk River. Mr. Leeseberg indicated if the commission was satisfied with the article, it would likely be posted on the city’s Facebook page in February. The commission did not request any changes to the article. Commissioner Mauren indicated he was thinking about doing an article on the history of the downtown movie theater in Elk River. Chair Lindberg noted there was an additional theatre in downtown. 5.3 Additional Projects and Updates Mr. Leeseberg read the email sent by Zack Carlton to the commission regarding the city working on a new section of their website outlining unique attractions in the community. Mr. Carlton requested knowledge and background on two possible topics, the oldest tree in Elk River and the ox cart trail. Commissioner Fox indicted the Kelley Farm has a tree that is very old. As for the ox cart trail, there has been a great deal of speculation on where a trail may have been in the area, and it was noted that the trail could have changed location from year to year based on weather and flooding conditions. Mr. Leeseberg asked the commission to send Mr. Carlton any thoughts they may think of regarding the subjects. To encourage interest in the history of Elk River, Commissioner Mauren suggested the group think of something like the Shiver Elk River medallion hunt with clues based around Elk River history. 6. Adjournment There being no further business, Chair Lindberg adjourned the meeting of the Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission at 6:28 p.m.
