Last month, the owner of the segment between Mississippi Road and 180th Avenue contacted Mayor
Dietz requesting the city take ownership.

The transfer will result in city ownership of the entire trail from Mississippi Road NW to Concord Court. Staff
recommends placing the Mississippi Road NW to Joplin Street segment in the Trail Master Plan to provide for a
safer crossing area.

The entire length of trail is in poor shape and is one of the lowest rated trails in our system and will need
replacing in the next couple of years.

Financial Impact
The city is currently maintaining the Mississippi Oaks Trail and the entire trail will need to be replaced soon to
meet city trail standards.

Mission/Policy/Goal
Transfer would meet Trails Master Plan Goals for long term access.

Attachments
 Mississippi Oaks Trail Update Staff Report and Minutes November 4, 2020
 Trail Location Map
 Trails Master Plan
