UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:FROM:
ERMU Commission Mike Tietz –Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
January 11, 2022 6.1i
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• In December, the locators processed 180 locate tickets. These consisted of 5 emergency
tickets, 126 normal tickets, 3 non-excavation tickets, 26 updated tickets, 3 corrections,
13 cancellations, 2 boundary surveys, and 2 locate meets. This resulted in a 53.2%
decrease of tickets from the previous month and an 8.2% decrease from the prior
December. The yearend results show that 2021 was our busiest locate year on record
with a total of 5378 tickets being processed. I anticipate another busy year of locates in
2022 with more work for the Highway 169 Redefine project to come. The locators
continue to GPS and validate data for our electric GIS maps during the winter months.

• Electrical Technicians completed 220 service order tasks, updated the power bill,
attended to customer meter issues and off-peak concerns.
• On December 16, staff ran generators #1, #2, #3 & #4 withnoissues.

• Mapping department has been busy GPSing splices & conduit locations along with
getting caught up on mapping changes/new construction from throughout the year.

• The substation apparatus technician has been building screens for a SCADA project,
laying out the replacement relay panel for the West substation. He is also investigating
communication equipment for the substations in preparation to switch communications
from Great River Energy’s (GRE) 700mHz system to our own fiber network.

• GRE experienced a momentary transmission system blink on December 16 that affected
all our substations at 2:11 a.m. This was caused by a thunderstorm moving through the
area. Power was restored immediately to all our substations and customers.

• Truck #17 had a fire in the cab. A claim has been filed with our insurance company and I
am working with one of our vendors to provide an estimate for repairs. Fortunately, no
one was hurt in this incident
______________________________________________________________________________
Page 1 of 1
146
