UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:FROM:
ERMU Commission Tom Sagstetter – Conservation & Key Accounts Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
November9, 2021 6.1e
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
In the last 30 days, the level two electric vehicle charger located downtown had 11
sessions and provided customers with 54 kWh. The DC fast charger at the Coborn’s fuel
station had 44sessions and provided576kWh. The charger in the ERMU/City Hall
parking lot had15sessions and provided customers with 214kWh. There was a totalof
70 charging sessions and844 kWh of green energy provided over the last 30days.
ERMU staff continues to explore options for the operation of the landfill gas-to-electric
generation facility after the contract end date in October 2022.
The Downtown Elk River Business Association is interested in purchasing winter
decorations for the light poles downtown. ERMU staff has been working with the City of
Elk River to determine the cost of installing them and the specifications for any
decorations installed on ERMU poles.
The communications coordinator and I attended the American Public Power
Association’s (APPA) Customer Connections Conference in Scottsdale Arizona, October
24-27. ERMU received an Excellence in Public Power Communications Award for a short
video and was again recognized as a Smart Energy Provider. In addition to receiving the
award and designation, staff attended many great informational sessions covering
topics such as: communicating in a crisis, prepay metering, whole home efficiency
programs, bill financing for efficiency, understanding the impacts of electric
transportation, and the lessons learned from the polar vortex in Texas. I also had the
pleasure of presenting to participants in the key accounts track onworking with
commercial customers with power quality concerns.
I attended a Minnesota Department of Commerce (MN DOC) virtual session on the
Energy Conservation & Optimization Act. The MN DOC is still developing the criteria for
cost-effectiveness calculations and determining how to incorporate fuel-switching and
transportation energy intothe energy savings goals. Each customer-owned utility must
file a plan by June 1, 2022 describing the programs to achieve the energy savings
equivalent of 1.5% of energy sales.
______________________________________________________________________________
Page 1 of 1
106
