Preserve the Tree Canopy
Any new residential development in the city, especially in
the urban service expansion area, should be respectful of
the mature tree canopy. Preserving trees and native land-
scapes in new developments is important in maintaining
the natural character that makes Elk River such a desirable
place to live. Section 30-415 of the city's Subdivision Design
Standards includes provisions on the preservation of trees
and other vegetation as well as tree planting requirements.
The city should continue to enforce these requirements
and encourage strategies such as clustering development
or orienting development along established tree lines to
protect trees as much as possible as growth occurs.
Tree Canopy
Tree Canopy
(US Forest Service, 2016)
Elk River Comprehensive Plan • Parks, Open Space & Natural Resources Plan
DIMITI ad10]C1CSMAlVWVK9ILII Wo
115
