UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:FROM:
ERMU Commission Mike Tietz –Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
September 14, 2021 6.1i
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• In August, the locators processed 625 locate tickets. These consisted of 8 emergency
tickets, 503 normal tickets, 5 non-excavation tickets, 3 boundary surveys, 70 updated
tickets, 20 cancellations, and 16 locate meets. This resulted in a 14.9% increase of
tickets from the previous month and an 1.6% increase from the prior year.

• Electrical technicians completed 269 service order tasks, updated the power bill,
attended to customer meter/power quality issues and off-peak concerns.

• On August 27, staff ran generators #1, #2, #3 & #4. Cooling water was significantly low
on #1 & #2, we will continue to monitor this. We have sent the4 fuel injectors from
Engine #3 in for rebuild.

• Mapping department continues to work on implementing mPower Integrator software.
Staff has also been busy using GPS to record locations of our underground facilities
around the power plant and around the system.

• The substation apparatus technician identified another disconnect switch at Station 14,
Bank #4 that needed immediate attention. We suspect that contaminants from Great
River Energy’s decommissioned power plant and the subsequent demolition of the
facility have been a major contributor to the problems occurring at that location.

• I have been focusing my time on Capital Project budgeting and the Advanced Metering
Infrastructure (AMI) project. I am in the process of obtaining quotes from several
consultants to help us with the AMI project.

• Chris Kerzman, Jon Wadsworth, and I met with Connexus Energy to examine their
substation perimeter fence security system and video surveillance system as a possible
future enhancement at ERMU’s substations.

______________________________________________________________________________
Page 1 of 2
99
