Ventage Preservation Commission Meeting Elk River City ITall March 18,2021 Mr. Carlton stated as long as there is a schedule and planned ahead of time, there would be no problems using staff. He stated they can finalize a budget amount at the May commission meeting. Mr. Carlton provided an update on the water tower restoration project. He spoke to the contractor,who was going to consider moving the city's project to the start of his schedule and may be able to begin work in late April or early May. Mr. Carlton led the commission through a brainstorming session to provide feedback on the vision of the water tower site. The commission reviewed a draft layout and discussed including the following: -Information kiosks -U-shaped flow with stops for information either by category or historical order -Benches -Pergola along a concrete walkway -Lower shrubbery and flowers to prevent visual barriers with taller, larger items. -Mural with scene of the downtown on fire (representing the need for the water tower) -Create an atmosphere of a meeting place Mr. Carlton suggested a minimalist approach to begin with — sidewalk, benches, add kiosks,low investment and maintenance. Commissioner Mauren, Commissioner Mortensen, and Commissioner Cole asked to be involved in helping with the RFP for the site design. Commissioner Griffiths provided an update on the academic journal project,noting he looked into accessing some research services specifically Newspapers.com to see if the city could access their items to use on the city's website and is waiting to hear back to see if the city has the rights to use them. He is also waiting to get back into the Sherburne History Center to access their records. 7. Adjournment There being no further business, Chair Lindberg adjourned the meeting of the Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission at 6:50 p.m.
