Memorandum <br /> <br />To: Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> <br />From: Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director <br /> <br />Date: May 12, 2021 <br /> <br />Subject: Director’s Report <br /> <br />This report is a monthly highlight of department activities related to recent collaborations, strategic <br />planning, staff changes/developments, and park operations. <br /> <br />Active Elk River - Orono Park & YAC <br />The preconstruction meeting for Orono Park was on May 5, 2021. Construction will begin May 17, 2021, <br />with the demolition of the parking lots and paths. The date for substantial completion is October 15. The <br />park, including the beach will be closed this summer. Limited access will be provided to the boat launch <br />on weekends only, especially Independence Day and Memorial Day weekends. <br /> <br />Woodland Trails Regional Park Grant Project <br />As discussed by the Commission, the ribbon cutting for the Woodland Trails Regional Park will be <br />Saturday, May 8 at 10 am. Inspection of the grant project by the DNR and (GMRPTC) Greater <br />Minnesota Recreation Parks & Trails Commission will be Wednesday, May 12 after which we plan <br />to receive the balance of the grant monies. <br />GNT Partners Public Engagement Event <br />A public engagement event to extend the Great Northern Trail to Milaca will be held on <br />Wednesday, June 16 from 4-7 pm at the Princeton Great Norther Railway Depot 101 10th Avenue <br />S., Princeton, MN 55371. RSVPs are required. Reserve your time by visiting www.SUGgnt.com <br />The city has been working with other jurisdictions along the GNT to develop the full length of the <br />trail. You input is needed to determine the preferred route from Zimmerman to Milaca. More <br />information is attached. <br />Athletic Field Analysis <br />The Athletic Field Analysis discussed by the Commission last month will be presented to City Council at <br />an upcoming work session to be determined. <br />Item: 10
