UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br />TO:FROM: <br />ERMU Commission Mike Tietz –Technical Services Superintendent <br />MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br />April13, 2021 6.1i <br />SUBJECT: <br />Staff Update <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />None <br />DISCUSSION: <br />• In March, the locators processed 359 locate tickets. These consisted of 2 emergency <br />tickets, 313 normal tickets, 3 non-excavation tickets, 1 boundary survey, 23 updated <br />tickets, 7 cancellations, and10 locate meets. This resulted in a 286% increase in tickets <br />from the previous month and an 97.3% increase over the prior year. The construction <br />season has started early this year for the locators. <br /> <br />• Electrical Technicians completed 164 service order tasks, updated the power bill, <br />performed weekly substation checks, attended to customer meter issues and off-peak <br />concerns. <br /> <br />• On March 16, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s Air Emission Inventory <br />Submittal was completed. We are mandated to report our emissions by the EPA to <br />maintain our air permit for the power plant generators. This report accounts for specific <br />amounts of air pollutants and greenhouse gases discharged into the atmosphere from <br />running the generators in 2020. <br /> <br />On March 22, staff ran generators #1, #2, #3 & #4without anyissues. City waterwill no <br />longer be needed for cooling as Lake Orono will be returned to normal levels. Also, both <br />lake water intake screens require replacement. I am getting quotes for this work. <br /> <br />• Mapping department staff has completed the mPower Integrator software <br />implementation. We are developing a roll-out of the software so field crews can utilize it <br />on their iPads. Staff is also updating the mapping application in preparation for hydrant <br />flushing the week of May 10. <br /> <br />• The Substation Apparatus Technician along with the Electrical Technicians completed <br />recloser control testing for both banks at the Station 14 substations in March. Staff has <br />been working on installing cable supports and racking for the high-side relaying <br />equipment in the power plant to prepare for the new transformer. <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />527 <br />
