of a pre-approved course. Courses must be at accredited colleges, universities, or <br />vocational schools or be short courses conducted by recognized professional <br />training organizations. <br />3.A course may be approved if: <br />a) <br />b)It is required by a program of study leading to a degree that is directly related <br />c)for the Utilities. <br />d)It is expected to be completed within a time acceptable to the Utilities. <br />4.This policy will not cover recreational or personal interest courses. <br />5.Prior to registration, the employee must have full approval for the course from <br />management designated as having approval authority for such matters. <br />6.The Utilities reserves the right to disapprove educational assistance requests and to <br />amend or eliminate this policy from time to time in its discretion. <br />7.Total reimbursements to an employee during the academic year may not exceed <br />$3,000. <br />8.Not eligible for reimbursement are costs of: <br />a)late fees and fees due to an employee error <br />b)meals, transportation, lodging, insurance, etc. <br />9.If an employee is eligible for education assistance from any outside source (e.g.: <br />G.I. Bill, grants, scholarships, etc.), the employee must apply for any assistance <br />first and request the balance through this Education Assistance Policy. <br />10.Termination of employment prior to completion of a course will disqualify the <br />employee for educational assistance. <br />11.Courses not satisfactorily completed within the time expected or otherwise <br />acceptable to the Utilities will not receive reimbursement but must instead be paid <br />for by the employee. <br />12.Course attendance and preparation must take place outside of scheduled work hours <br />13.Employees will be paid for any time used in attending courses for which they are <br />required by the Utilities to attend. All tuition and fees for such course will be paid <br />for by the Utilities. <br />44 <br />January 2020 <br />201 <br />
