■ Follow-up errto ensure action has been taken to correct the problem. <br />Emergency Closing <br />City facilities will generally be open during adverse weather. Due to individual circumstances, each <br />employee will have to evaluate the weather and road conditions in deciding to report to work (or leave <br />early). Employees not reporting to work for reasons of personal safety <br />Employees -will be allowed to use accrued vacation time or <br />compensatory time, or with supervisor approval, may modify the work schedule or make other <br />reasonable schedule adjustments. <br />Sworn police officers, wastewater treatment operators, and public works maintenance employees will <br />generally be required to report to work regardless of conditions. <br />Decisions to cancel departmental programs (special events, recreation programs, etc.) will be made by <br />the respective department director after consultation with the city administrator. <br />Employee Participation in the City Fire Department <br />Employees are allowed and encouraged to participate as a part-time paid on call firefighter in the Elk <br />River Fire Department. The following pay provisions, in accordance with state and federal laws, apply to <br />employees who also work outside of their regular department as part-time paid firefighters: <br />Fire Calls During Working Hours <br />An employee will be allowed to respond to fire calls as approved and determined by his/her department <br />director, based on the work assignments and responsibilities of the employee. <br />Employees responding to fire calls during regular work hours will be compensated at the same rate as <br />his/her regular city position with no additional firefighter paid compensation. An employee who <br />completes (flexes) regular work hours interrupted for a fire call during the same day will also receive <br />firefighter pay for the fire call. <br />42 <br />
