Drug and Alcohol Policy <br />Employees are expected and required to report to work on time and in appropriate mental and physical <br />condition. It is the city's intent and obligation to provide a drug -free, safe, and secure work environment. <br />BeeattseiFhe city ha -,contracts with tfederal gemagencies andt is subject to the federal <br />Drug -Free Workplace Act; which places certain requirements on employers to maintain a drug -free <br />workplace. In accordance A with the Aact you are hereby notified, the eity is requifed to give <br />The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of any controlled substance <br />(including alcohol is prohibited on city property or while conducting city business. The lawful use of <br />alcohol is prohibited while conducting city business. Employees violating this prohibition may be subject <br />to disciplinary action including, but not limited to, suspension or termination, and may have legal <br />consequences.:_ £ooliev <br />� <br />Controlled substances include, but are not limited to, opiates, hallucinogenic substances, depressants, <br />stimulants, and narcotics. <br />pThe Drug -Free Workplace Act prohibits only unlawul use, possession, or distribution of such <br />drugs in the workplace, and not the lawful use of prescription medications. <br />Employees taking prescription or over-the-counter drugs that may affect the safety of others must obtain <br />a determination from their physician as to whether the drug could affect the job safety of the employee <br />or others. If job safety may be affected, the employee must inform his or her immediate supervisor so <br />that appropriate accommodations and arrangements can be made. <br />The city recognizes drug abuse as a potential health, safety and security problem. Employees needing <br />help in dealing with such problems are encouraged to use them Employee Assistance Plan or their <br />health insurance plans, as appropriate. <br />As a condition of continued employment at the city, all employees must: <br />■ Abide by the terms of this npolicy; and <br />■ Notify the employee's supervisor, Human Resources, or city administrator of any criminal drug <br />statute conviction arising out of a violation occurring on or off work premises while conducting <br />city business oft city pfopeftrno later than five days after the conviction. <br />The city retains the right, at its sole discretion, to report employee conduct violating this policy to law <br />enforcement officials and to turn over any controlled substances to the custody of law enforcement <br />officials. <br />56 <br />
