Hours not used are lost to the
employee. Each year, we have a handful of employees who lose a few hours because they were unable to get their
balance below 240 hours.

This year, we have 27 employees who are in danger of losing vacation time, one-third are police department
employees. Vacation plans and work schedule changes due to the pandemic have accounted for a great deal of the
high balances.

I would like the City Council to consider extending the excess carry-over vacation leave into 2021 with the
expectation all balances are at or below 240 hours next year or the hours would be lost.

Financial Impact
N/A

Mission/Policy/Goal
N/A

Attachments
None

The Elk River Vision
A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional

service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity.
Updated: August 2020
