<br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br />Mayor and City Council 4.6 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Consent December 7, 2020 Ron Nierenhausen, Chief of Police <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Body-Worn Camera Quote and Contract Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Direct, by motion, the execution of the Elk River Police Department’s body-worn/fleet camera program quote <br />and contract received from Axon Corporation. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />On July 20, 2020, the Police Department presented to Council the desire to outfit the entire department with <br />body-worn cameras along with the pricing, features, and data storage options offered by Axon Corporation. <br /> <br />On July 27, 2020, Council approved the body worn camera program cost within the Police Department’s budget <br />allowing the Police Department to proceed with the implementation of the body-worn camera program as well as <br />retrofitting squad car cameras. <br /> <br />On October 5, 2020, the Council directed the police department to seek public comment per state statute. <br />Constituents had until October 18, 2020, to email City Administrator Cal Portner their opinion as to the merits of <br />a body-worn camera program.
