PROJECT EXPERIENCE c R o-u P <br />TYPE HENRICO COUNTY FIREHOUSE #19 <br />Fire Station <br />SHORT PUMP, VIRGINIA <br />SIZE <br />12,680 SF <br />Henrico County selected BKV Group to design a fire station in a neighborhood <br />Three drive -through bays <br />northwest of Richmond. The County had been using a prototype station for <br />Twelve bunk rooms <br />several years, but recently reached the point where it no longer met their <br />needs. In addition, the aesthetics of the prototype were unlikely to satisfy <br />COST <br />the well-to-do neighbors. BKV Group's national expertise and innovative fire <br />$5.01 M <br />station planning were major deciding factors during the selection process. <br />The fire station houses full-time staff, with 12 dorm rooms and three apparatus <br />SCOPE <br />bays. It is LEED Gold certified with a particular sustainable focus on the quality <br />Programming, Planning, Design, <br />of the interior environment for the firefighters and long-term energy efficiency <br />Documentation, Architecture, <br />(33% cost savings over a baseline building). A separate workshop behind the <br />Interior Design, Mechanical, <br />return apron houses the County's Drone Workshop, where they store and <br />Electrical and Structural <br />maintain remote controlled equipment and practice using drones in search <br />Engineering, Construction <br />and rescue operations. <br />Administration <br />Public engagement was very important to the client, as the project was the <br />OWNER'S CONTACT <br />first for a newly elected County Supervisor. Key concerns of the neighbors <br />Henrico County, VA <br />included the aesthetic style of the firehouse, noise, landscape screening, and <br />Chuck Phan <br />response paths. Subsequent presentations to the community focused on their <br />Capital Projects Manager <br />key concerns with detailed landscape screening discussions and diagrams to <br />show setbacks and response paths.
