One was filled with an internal candidate and we went to market to fill the other two positions.
We received 29 applications for the position of Assistant Chief of Operations and Training and held brief
interviews with 15 candidates. We narrowed the pool and interviewed eight candidates. Following a leadership
assessment and physical and psychological exams, we recommend Mark Wandersee to fill this position.
Assistant Chief Wandersee is a captain, paramedic, and hazardous materials decontamination officer at the City of
St. Paul Fire Department. He is also a CPR training instructor. He has worked as a trainer/instructor for first aid,
basic life support, Heartsaver, and paramedic. He has also worked as a fire equipment operator/paramedic for the
City of Virginia Fire Department and a volunteer firefighter, first responder, EMT for the Shakopee Fire
Department. Mr. Wandersee holds an emergency health services/paramedic associate degree, and a bachelor's
degree in fire science. He is currently working on a master's degree in organizational leadership.
Assistant Chief Wandersee will start at step D of pay grade 5E. His vacation accrual will begin at the rate of three
weeks per year.
