One was filled with an internal candidate and we went to market to fill the other two positions. <br />We received 29 applications for the position of Assistant Chief of Operations and Training and held brief <br />interviews with 15 candidates. We narrowed the pool and interviewed eight candidates. Following a leadership <br />assessment and physical and psychological exams, we recommend Mark Wandersee to fill this position. <br />Assistant Chief Wandersee is a captain, paramedic, and hazardous materials decontamination officer at the City of <br />St. Paul Fire Department. He is also a CPR training instructor. He has worked as a trainer/instructor for first aid, <br />basic life support, Heartsaver, and paramedic. He has also worked as a fire equipment operator/paramedic for the <br />City of Virginia Fire Department and a volunteer firefighter, first responder, EMT for the Shakopee Fire <br />Department. Mr. Wandersee holds an emergency health services/paramedic associate degree, and a bachelor's <br />degree in fire science. He is currently working on a master's degree in organizational leadership. <br />Assistant Chief Wandersee will start at step D of pay grade 5E. His vacation accrual will begin at the rate of three <br />weeks per year.
