Request for Action
To
Item Number
Mayor and Ci T Council
8.1
Agenda Section
Meeting Date
Prepared by
General Business
October 19, 2020
Cal Portner, City Administrator
Item Description
Reviewed by
Naming Rights Agreement
Reviewed by
Action Requested
Approve, by motion, a naming rights agreement for the City of Elk River multipurpose facility.
Background/Discussion
Following the approval of a Local Option Sales Tax referendum to the Active Elk River Project, the City Council
discussed opportunities to engage a consultant to work with local business leaders to partner in marketing the
multipurpose facility and other project amenities.
Chris Potenza of Front Burner Sports was hired to design a naming rights plan and to solicit and negotiate with
partners from the local community. A subcommittee was appointed by the Council consisting of Mayor John
Dietz, Councilmember Jennifer Wagner, City Administrator Cal Portner, Parks and Recreation Director Michael
Hecker and Facility Superintendent Tim Dalton to work with Mr. Potenza. We are excited to bring forward our
first partner whose name will brand the new community facility.
Our partner is very excited and asked to have the contract approved at the earliest date possible. City protocol is
to have agreements approved by the Council after signed by our partner. Due to some last-minute adjustments,
the signed agreement was not available when the Council packet was published. Copies will be available at the
meeting.
Financial Impact
N/A
Mission/Policy/Goal
This type of agreement is consistent with the city mission and vision statement.
Attachments
None
The Elk River Vision
A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional
service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires pi ospei ly.
M
TUREJ
Updated.• August 2020
