<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />May 7, 1962 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Elk River Council was held at the Village Hall on May 7, 1962 with all <br />members present, except Trustee Kemper. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Johnson. The <br />minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />Other persons present at the meeting were Harold Rydel, Alfred Lestico, __ Schurer, Archie Larson, <br />Pete Thomas, Harry Dreissig, Mrs. Ray Becker who represented the St. Cloud Times. There was <br />discussion regarding the use of the village dump and also about the village park. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Larson to appoint Violet Turner as Deputy Village <br />Treasurer. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A letter was received by the clerk from the Great Northern Ry asking if the village wishes to have <br />spare track at the Liquor Store Building removed as it is no further use. A motion was made by <br />Briggs and seconded by Larson that the Clerk write the railroad Co that they may take out the spare <br />track if they wish if it can be done without cost to the village otherwise it may stay where it is. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Meyer that the village enter into a mutual aid <br />agreement for fire protection with New Hope. Carried. <br /> <br />Archie representing the Park Board mentioned several things that should be done to improve the <br />village park. He said there should be a life guard on duty on Sunday and the grounds should be <br />taken care of better. <br /> <br />The clerk was asked to write the N.P. Ry that the village is ready to pay $300.00 for the parking <br />opposite the depot but that the company should take down the snow fence and stand the expense of <br />building a new fence closer to the tracks. <br /> <br />Bids for care of the dump were opened. Alfred Lestico - $1.25 per. Harold Riedel $1.00 per hr plus <br />free dumping privilege. <br /> <br />Fred Brenteson bid for TD18 Cat was $10.50 per hour. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Larson and seconded by Briggs to reject all bids for man at the dump. <br />Motion carried. Council decided to have one of the village employees take care of the dump on the <br />days it is open. <br /> <br />The clerk was asked to write the First National Band agency regarding insurance on the machinery at <br />the Power and Light Plant. This policy should be turned over to the agency of record. A letter was <br />received from the Bank of Elk River explaining the matter. A copy of the letter was mailed to the <br />First National Bank Agency. <br /> <br />A petition was received and placed on file signed by 148 persons asking that the zoning ordinance <br />be brought to a vote of the people. The council will confer with Atty MacGibbon for advice. <br /> <br /> <br />
