VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER PUBLIC HEARING
December 15, 1958

A public hearing on sewer extensions was held at the village hall on December 15, 1958. All council
members were present. A delegation of those interested in the sewer extension and sewer plant were
also present.

Engineer Mills of Lindsey, Carter, and Associates was at the meeting to give necessary information
and advice. Mr. Mills explained the construction, operation, and estimated cost of the plant. There
were remarks also by Village Attorney John E. Mac Gibbon and Mr. Carter.

There were many questions asked regarding the extensions and what the lift would cost also cost of
going across the Elk River.

The general opinion seemed to be that the people representing the Meadowvale extension would
want sewer and water even if other sections did not.

Those across the bridge seemed to feel that they should not be required to stand the expense of the
lift station by themselves and that the village as a whole should assume part of the cost.

The Mayor asked for an expression of the council members regarding this question and it was the
unanimous opinion that the village should stand part of the cost of the lift station but how much
was not stated.

Two property owners south of the bridge stated that as far as their property is concerned, they
would be willing to abide by the judgement of the council.

A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Briggs to sign contract with Lindsey, Carter, and
Associates for the Meadowvale extension for sewer and water subject to the approval of the Power
and Light Commission. Carried.

A motion was made by Bergerson and seconded by Kemper to go ahead with plans for the ewer
treatment plant. Motion carried.

Meeting adjourned.

H.A. Briggs
Village Clerk
