<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />June 3, 1957 <br /> <br />A regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was held at the Municipal building on June 3, <br />1957. The meeting was called to order by acting Mayor Harry Dow in the absence of Mayor <br />Schwartz. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved; all other members were present. <br /> <br /> A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Sandberg to allow $2000.00 for expense of sending <br />four members of the fire department to the Firemen’s Convention at Albert Lea. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Sandberg to change the charge for fire department <br />services outside village to: <br />$75.00 for the first hour or fraction of an hour and $25.00 for each half hour additional. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Meyer that in case of contract with surrounding <br />townships we make a change of $100.00 per year standby in addition to our regular charge for each <br />fire. Carried. <br /> <br />The matter of streets improvement was discussed. Lester Derr was asked to investigate cost of <br />improvements in vicinity of Pond Street and Park Street in front of new school and report estimated <br />cost. <br /> <br />Motion by Sandberg and seconded by Meyer to advertise for bids for new air conditioner for the <br />Liquor store, also bids for the air conditioner, with trade in of old equipment and refrigeration. <br />Carried. <br /> <br />Mashall Micheaun was present. He explained the operation of a two-way radio for police cars, so <br />that police can be call from central. He will investigate further. <br /> <br />Earl Maas and Hilmer Bartell representing the American Legion met with the council. They would <br />like to have a club license to sell liquor in the Legion rooms. Upon motion by Sandberg and <br />seconded by Meyer, the matter was tabled until the next regular or special meetings. <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed: <br />Davis Food Market – groceries Mrs. Buddy - $91.00 <br />Mrs. Carl Bartz – rent, Mrs. Buddy - $20.00 <br />Fire department – fires - $144.00 <br />Miller-Davis Co – justice blanks - $7.32 <br />Miller-Davis Co – clerk blanks - $8.67 <br />Gordon Tesch – services - $5.00 <br />Weber’s Station – gas & oil - $34.46 <br />First National Bank – box rent - $4.40 <br />Board of Education- supplies - $ 15.00 <br />Minnesota Fire Ext. Co. – mdse - $8.00 <br />Greupner Shoe Store – mdse - $5.95 <br />Caley Hardware – mdse - $8.50 <br />Rosenwald-Cooper – signs - $13.80 <br />Elk River Lumber Co. – coal, Mrs. Buddy - $4.20 <br /> <br />
