<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />May 6, 1957 <br /> <br />A regular meeting of the Elk River Council was called to order on May 6, 1957 at the village hall by <br />Mayor Schwartz. All members were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />A delegation with Harold Adams as spokesman was present with a complaint regarding speeding in <br />the Walker addition. They said it was dangerous for children. The council agreed to have appropriate <br />signs put up. <br /> <br />A.E. Balow, manager of the Liquor Store was present and reported that the store needs a new <br />package beer cooler and possible a new air conditioner. The matter was taken under advisement. <br /> <br />Wallace Johnson appeared and asked about a street on the Russell Oliver property. Council agreed <br />to take this up at the next special meeting. <br /> <br />Complaints were received regarding the parking of trucks and the operation of junk yards and <br />commercial activities in residential areas. The clerk was asked to write several persons asking if this <br />situation can be cleared up in the near future. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Sandberg and second by Meyer to send bill to Burns Township for Bernard <br />fire for $75.00 for the first hour and $50.00 for each additional hour. Carried. <br /> <br />The council agreed to send bill for Gene Ebner fire to village attorney for collection. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Sandberg and seconded by Meyer to authorize Fire Chief Harry Dreissig to <br />buy equipment for fire department as requested. Carried. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Briggs and second by Dow, transfer of $5,00.00 from Liquor Fund to General <br />Fund was approved. <br /> <br />The matter of buying a new boat or repairing the old one was referred to the Parks Committee. <br /> <br />Walter L. Johnson’s temporary beer license expired May 1, 1957. Upon motion by Sandberg and <br />second by Dow On and Off beer license was renewed for Johnson for one year beginning May 1, <br />1957. <br /> <br />The following building permits were granted: Oliver Michean, Rootes and Johnson, E.R. Vanden <br />Berge, Ray DeMars, Carmin Peloquin. <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed: <br />St. Louis County Welfare Board – Preston case - $174.03 <br />Nickerson Bros. – gas & oil - $31.70 <br />Wm. H. Ziegler – mdse - $13.28 <br />Minn. Fire Ext. co. – mdse (fire dept) - $68.84 <br />Elk River Lumber Co. – coal (Mrs. Buddy) - $8.00 <br />Star News – Notices - $12.00 <br />Myron Hetrick – gas - $3.10 <br /> <br />
