<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />April 1, 1957 <br /> <br />A regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was held at the Municipal building on April 1, <br />1957 with all members present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />Les Derr reported that he did some work on village property in the rear of the Caley building and <br />made room for a small parking lot. <br /> <br />The village clerk was asked to write the highway department about the traffic hazard on the <br />Mississippi bridge on highway 101 and the matter of the crosswalk on Princeton St. and highway 10. <br /> <br />Clerk was also asked to write the State Board of Health requesting that someone from that <br />department come up if possible, to make tests of a possible site for a lagoon for sewage disposal. <br /> <br />Harry Dreissig, Fire Chief was present and there was discussion about grass fires. Upon motion by <br />Meyer and second by Dow the council voted to authorize the Fire Chief to restrict the burning of <br />grass and brush to after 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. No restrictions on Saturday and Sunday. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Sandberg and seconded by Briggs to send one member of the Fire <br />department to the annual Fire School at the University of Minnesota with expenses paid. Carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Sandberg to authorize the Fire department to order <br />two pumpers. Carried. <br /> <br />The council authorized the clerk to send a second notice to Gene Ebner for fire call of January 14, <br />1957. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Dow and seconded by Meyer that the village sponsor the sending of two <br />members of the school patrol to the summer camp. Carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Sandberg to authorize the St. Andrews school to use <br />temporary stop signs on Lincoln St. in front of the school on school days to conform the use of <br />such signs at the public school. Motion carried. <br /> <br />The village contribution to the recreation program for the summer was discussed. This was tabled <br />until the next meeting. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Dow and seconded by Meyer to credit the Park and Playground Fund the <br />$1,000.00 received from the Commercial Club for the new park. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Bill of Davis Food Market for groceries for Oliver DeMars was tabled until the next meeting. <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed and ordered paid: <br />Farm Bureau – gas & oil - $11.76 <br />State Farm Insurance – insurance - $22.27 <br />Standard Oil Co. – gas - $4.75 <br />Bank of Elk River – assessor bond - $5.00 <br />Flaherty Bros – gas & oil – $9.00 <br /> <br />
