<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />May 2, 1955 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on May 2, 1955. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> Edward Schwartz, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. <br />Briggs, Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by the Mayor Schwartz. The minutes of the last meeting were read <br />and approved. <br /> <br />There was a discussion regarding the improving the street from the Meadow Vale Road to Russell <br />Oliver’s and Lars Larson’s places. The council decided to have Lester Derr look over the situation. <br />Council agreed that the property owner interested would have to deed part of each lot to the village <br />before it could be maintained as a street. <br /> <br />Mayor Schwartz reported that the Road and Bridge Committee spent an afternoon inspecting <br />sidewalks in the village where repairing needs to be done. <br /> <br />After some discussion the council decided to black top Lincoln Street to Park St and also grade the <br />Roggatz Loop in Upper Town. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Dow to extend the sewer to Clifford Peterson <br />property. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Fire Chief, Harry Dreissig was present and explained what items and repairs the Fire Department <br />needs. The Council agreed to allow the Department buy belts and spanner wrenches. Also to get <br />estimate on cost of having pump repaired. <br /> <br />It was agreed to have band stand painted, ceiling and woodwork. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Dow and seconded by Briggs to raise pay of Deputy George Moos to $1.15 <br />an hour. Carried. <br /> <br />There being a vacancy on the Power and Light Commission caused by the resignation of Cleland <br />Meyers Dow made a motion to appoint Joseph Bailey to fill the vacancy. Motion was seconded by <br />Meyer. The motion carried. <br /> <br />The following bills were approved: <br />Fire Department – fires 651.00 <br />Frank Dreissig – prisoner meals 9.30 <br />Rosenwald-Cooper Co – signs 45.65 <br />Charles Nelson – prisoner lodging 10.00 <br />Miller-Davis Co – blanks 18.47 <br />E.R. Ins Agency – ins 20.88 <br />Elk River Mch Shop – repairs 2.50 <br /> <br />
