VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING January 3, 1955 A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Jan 3, 1955. Members present: Edward Schwartz, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, Clerk The meeting was called to order by Mayor Schwartz. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Anthony Burgoyne was present and asked to have the west end of Depot Street closed. The Council asked Mr. Burgoyne to have a petition prepared and submit it to the council. Motion by Bailey and second by Dow that Elk River join the State Fire Chief Association. Carried. A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Bailey to establish pay days for village employees on the first and fifteenth of each month. Carried. Village engineer, Richard Halter was present and reported on the business of the Light and Power Commission. He stated that Elk River has the third lowest electric rate in the State. A motion was made by Briggs that Wm Patenaude Jr be reappointed on the Light and Power Commission. Motion was seconded by Dow and carried. The following standing committees were appointed by Mayor Schwartz: Sewer – Schwartz, Bailey, Meyer Parks and Playgrounds – Briggs, Meyer Liquor – Schwartz, Dow, Meyer Relief – Briggs, Bailey Road and Bridge – Dow, Briggs, Schwartz Other appointments made were: Village Attorney – John McGibbon Board of Health: Dr. W.C. Woyda – Chairman, Dr. A.B. Roehlke, Dr. Gordon H. Tesch A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Dow to make the fee for Building Permits $1.00 beginning Jan 1, 1955. Carried. The following bills were approved and ordered paid: Robert McMillan – labor 24.00 J.G. Ostby – election board 11.00 Robert McMillan – labor 24.00 August Leider – labor 181.10 Mrs. Wm Health – welfare 75.00 H.J. Pfeiffer – election board 11.00
