<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />June 7, 1954 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on June 7, 1954. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> Edward Schwartz, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. <br />Briggs, Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Schwartz. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />Harry Anderson reported that the fence between his property and the village swimming beach needs <br />repair. This was referred to Lester Derr. <br /> <br />Hugh Owens met with the Council and there was a discussion regarding his roller skating rink on <br />the old fair grounds. He stated that the rink would be open until 10:30 P.M. three days a week. The <br />Council agreed. <br /> <br />Albert Bailey and Dr. McNair were present and brought up the matter of fluoridation of the city <br />water. Mayor Schwartz agreed to get the reaction of the Community Club and also see the Village <br />Attorney as to the correct procedure to follow. Action was deferred until the next meeting. <br /> <br />The first Monday in July coming on the fifth of the month, the next council meeting was set for <br />thth <br />Tuesday, July 5. The Fourth coming on Sunday, July 5 would be a holiday. <br /> <br />th <br />A petition was presented by Frank Nickerson for a sewer extension on 4 St. east to the Putnam <br />driveway. A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Meyer to make this extension as soon as <br />possible. Carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Dow to allow $200.00 to pay part of expense of Fire <br />Dept. Convention. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Harry Dreissig, Fire Chief, reported on the work of the Fire Department. He said the tires on the <br />old Chevrolet truck were 20 years old and should be replaced. Also that the tires on the Ford Truck <br />are 13 years old. The Council suggested that the tires on the Ford be transferred to the Chevrolet <br />and new tires be bought for the Ford. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Dow to raise Mrs. Page’s salary as librarian to $85.00 <br />a month to include janitor work. Carried. <br /> <br />Lester Derr was asked to make a survey of what street surfacing should be done. The cost not to <br />exceed $5000.00. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Dow to approve the purchase of two truck tires. <br />Carried. <br /> <br /> <br />
