<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />September 8, 1953 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Sept 8, 1953. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> E.A. Parent, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, <br />Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Parent. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />A committee from the Library Board met with the Council. They asked that certain redecorating be <br />done in the library room estimated to cost $250.00, also a book case to cost $35.00. A motion was <br />made by Briggs and seconded by Dow to have these improvements made at the estimated cost as <br />submitted by Robert Hastings. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Shorty Christian was present and asked if something can be done about the sidewalk at his place <br />which is below the level of the street. The council agreed to have Lester Derr look at it. <br /> <br />Oscar Oscarson presented a petition signed by several persons in his neighborhood asking the <br />Council not to grant a building permit to the owner of Lot 1 and Lot 6, Block 15, Village of Elk <br />River. Nothing was done about it at this meeting. The clerk was asked to write the League for <br />sample zoning ordinance. <br /> <br />The council agreed to ask Les Derr to investigate the matter of extending the sewer line to property <br />owned by Wm Patenaude Sr. <br /> <br />Ed Dreissig present at the meeting objects to having a trucking terminal in the residence district near <br />his home. The council suggested looking into this matter in connection with a contemplated zoning <br />ordinance. <br /> <br />There was some discussion regarding the curfew which was brought up at the last meeting. The <br />sample ordinance was given to Dan Bailey to prepare and type the ordinance. <br /> <br />The council agreed to keep George Moos on as extra police until Thanksgiving. <br /> <br />The following levy was made for 1954: <br />General Fund $10,000.00 <br />Road and Bridge $6,000.00 <br />Poor Fund $500.00 <br />Library Fund $2,000.00 <br />Music Fund 2 mills <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed and ordered paid: <br />Nickerson Bros – gas, oil, supplies $32.24 <br />Marshall Wells – mdse 1.04 <br /> <br />
