MR <br /> �; � <br /> Beekeeping <br /> Lk <br /> in <br /> Elk River - <br /> j A. <br /> Cit),of <br /> Elk _ <br /> River <br /> In 2018,the City Council passed an ordinance allowing the keeping of honeybees with an approved <br /> permit. Section 30-803 (� <br /> Requirements <br /> ■ The number of colonies allowed is based on the size of the property. Residential lots between <br /> one and five acres shall be permitted six colonies. There is no limit to the number of colonies <br /> for residentially zoned parcels five acres and above. <br /> ■ Any hive on the property must be setback: <br /> 0 35' from the front property line <br /> 0 20' from side and rear property lines <br /> 0 30' from public right-of-way, trail easements,and adjacent dwelling units <br /> ■ If a hive is located closer than 25 feet to a property line,a six foot tall flyway barrier is required <br /> ■ The property owner/beekeeper applying for the registration must have attended a beekeeping <br /> course from an accredited Minnesota institution <br /> Public notification <br /> The City will notify all residents living within 350 feet of the property line of a proposed apiary <br /> (beekeeping) site when an application is received. <br /> The beekeeping permit must be denied if the city receives a written objection from a resident living <br /> within the designated notification area that includes medical documentation by a licensed physician <br /> of an allergy to honeybee venom. <br /> Registration period <br /> Registrations are valid from April 1 through the following March 31 and must be renewed each year. <br /> Apply for an apiary permit <br /> Submit a completed beekeeping permit application with the following: <br /> ■ The property owner/beekeepers information <br /> ■ A property&apiary diagram of the property <br /> ■ A copy of the certificate of completion of a beekeeping course from an accredited <br /> Minnesota institution <br /> ■ A one-time registration fee of$75.00 <br /> N:\Departments\Community Development\Placuiing\Admin\Application Forms\2020\Beekeeping Permit 2020.docx8/6/2020 Last Modified <br />
