<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />June 1, 1953 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on June 1, 1953. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> E.A. Parent, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, <br />Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Parent. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />Mrs. Archie Larson and delegation from the Community Club were present at the meeting. They <br />asked for a high platform for the life guard at the beach. Also a raft and diving board. The Council <br />agreed to have a high platform and diving board constructed. <br /> <br />Mr. Dugan, manager of the local N.W. Bell Telephone CO, complained about persons fishing from <br />the Elk River bridge at the power plant stating that fishing lines get tangled in the telephone wires <br />causing much damage and expense. Motion was made by Dow and seconded by Meyer to have signs <br />posted at bridge forbidding fishing from the bridge. Carried. <br /> <br />Marshall Micheau asked that there be no truck parking on State Highway No. 10 between the drug <br />store corner and the alley at the rear of the Spot Café. The Council agreed. The Council also agreed <br />to have crosswalk moved from opposite the variety store to opposite the Drug Store by the <br />Highway Department provided there would be no expense to the village. <br /> <br />As a result of a complaint by a delegation from west part of town regarding drainage, a motion was <br />made by Bailey and seconded by Dow to lay a tile from the end of Line Street south under Main St. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Dow to appropriate $200.00 for expense of Fire <br />Department for attending their annual convention. Carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Meyer to instruct the clerk to write the State <br />Highway Department to give consideration to Bernard’s application for an entrance on Highway 10 <br />for his service station. Carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Dow to lease space in the fire hall for pump for civil <br />defense for emergency purposes. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Bailey and second by Briggs, Lester Derr’s salary was set at $350.00 per month <br />beginning June 1, 1953. Carried. <br /> <br />As there has been so much trouble with the village hall roof recently a motion was made by Bailey <br />and seconded by Meyer to have the roof resurfaced by the All Weather Paint and Roofing Co of <br />Minneapolis at a cost of $386.00. Motion carried. <br /> <br /> <br />
