<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />January 3, 1949 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Jan 3, 1949. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> Oscar Odegard, Mayor; Emil Parent, Dan Bailey, R.A. Ellingson, Trustees; H.A. <br />Briggs, Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Odegard. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />The clerk reported the results of the recent election: <br />Officers elected: <br />Village Treasurer – J.H. Daly <br />Village Clerk – H.A. Briggs <br />Justice of the Peace – H.J. LaVine <br />Trustee – Emil Parent <br />Assessor – Leslie Matz <br />Constable – Charles M Nelson <br /> <br />Bonds of Treasurer and Clerk were approved and filed. <br /> <br />Mr. and Mrs. August Leider were present and asked for relief. They stated that Mr. Leider could not <br />find work and needed fuel and food. A motion was made by Ellingson and seconded by Bailey to <br />allow them up to $25.00, $13.00 for groceries and $12.00 for fuel oil. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Wirtz and Mord talked to the Council about collecting waste paper and refuse instead of having it <br />done by the village. It was decided that they should contact business places and make some <br />arrangement for collection, the cost to be taken care of by the business places. <br /> <br />A committee from the Fire Department met with the Council and inquired about selling the old fire <br />truck as they had received an offer from North Dak. To buy it. It was decided not to sell as the truck <br />is still serviceable and the cost of a new one would be high. <br /> <br />H.J. LaVine, newly elected Justice of the Peace, asked about getting code book and supplies for his <br />office. It was agreed that he should see attorney Wakefield about this and he was given permission <br />to get such books and blanks that he will need. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Ellingson to re-appoint V.B. Skellenger as member <br />of the Power and Light Commission. The motion carried all voting aye. <br /> <br />The following standing committees were appointed by Mayor Odegard: <br />Parks and Playground: Parent, Briggs, Ellingson <br />Relief: Briggs, Bailey <br />Sewer and Water: Ellingson, Parent, Bailey <br />Liquor: Ellingson, Briggs, Parent <br /> <br />
