<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />May 3, 1948 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on May 3, 1948. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> Oscar Odegard, Mayor; Elmer Leger, Dan Bailey, R.A. Ellingson, Trustees; H.A. <br />Briggs, Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Odegard. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />A delegation from the Library Board, Mrs. H.A. Briggs, Mrs. Walter Swenson and Mrs. E.R. <br />VandenBerge met with the Council. The reported that they have raised the salary of the librarian, <br />Mrs. Page from $35.00 to $45.00 a month and for that reason will need a larger levy for the library <br />for 1949. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Ellingson and second by Briggs it was decided to raise the levy for the library fund <br />from $750.00 to $1000.00 for the year 1949. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Leger and seconded by Ellingson to transfer $3000.00 from the liquor fund <br />to the sewer fund. The motion carried. <br /> <br />Robert Cornelius reported that water drains onto his mother’s lot and does damage to the basement. <br />The council agreed to have the matter looked into. <br /> <br />Gust Johnson brought up the matter of Business Interruption Insurance of the Municipal Liquor <br />Store and the Council agreed to give it consideration. <br /> <br />Wm Roggatz, Fire Chief, asked the council for an appropriation for the expense of sending delegates <br />to the Firemens Convention at East Grand Forks in June. Upon motion by Ellingson and second by <br />Briggs it was decided to allow $200.00 for this purpose. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Ellingson and seconded by Leger to approve bond of Irene Knowlton, <br />Deputy Treasurer. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Ellingson to approve application for building permit <br />by Alfred Steinhart. Carried. <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed and ordered paid: <br />Lester Derr – ½ Apr salary 112.50 <br />Gerald Hagel – street work 67.15 <br />Lester Derr – last half Apr sal 112.50 <br />Charles M Nelson – Apr salary and car 235.00 <br />State Farm Ins Co – ins on truck 55.11 <br />Dick Wombill – street work 10.40 <br />H.A. Briggs – Apr salary 40.00 <br /> <br />
