Property owners are asked to consider mitigation activities <br />such as acquisition, relocation, or elevation, among other options. FEMA's Repetitive Loss (RL) <br />properties strategy is to eliminate or reduce the damage to property and the disruption to life caused <br />by repeated flooding of the same properties. Property owners are notified of their status by FEMA. <br />Sherburne County has one repetitive loss property, as described in Table 32. An SRL property is defined as a <br />residential property that is covered under an NFIP flood insurance policy and: <br />• That has at least four NFIP claim payments (including building and contents) over $5,000 each, <br />and the cumulative amount of such claims payments exceeds $20,000; or <br />• For which at least two separate claims payments (building payments only) have been made <br />with the cumulative amount of the building portion of such claims exceeding the market value <br />of the building. <br />• For both (a) and (b) above, at least two of the referenced claims must have occurred within any <br />so -year period, and must be greater than io days apart. <br />For more on the areas that flood repeatedly in Sherburne County, see Section 4.3.5 Flash Flood and <br />Riverine Flood. <br />5.1.2 Plans and Ordinances <br />Sherburne County and its incorporated communities have a number of plans and ordinances in place to <br />ensure the safety of residents and the effective operation of communities, including a Comprehensive/ <br />Page 193 <br />
