Sherburne County Multi -Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2020 <br />Roadways <br />U.S. Highway 169 runs north -south through the county, passing through Elk River and Zimmerman. <br />U.S. Highway 10 also runs through the county, to the east of the Mississippi River, passing through Elk <br />River, Big Lake, Becker and Clear Lake. MN Highway 25 runs north -south through the county between <br />Becker and Clear Lake. <br />The Minnesota Department of Transportation uses a functional classification to group the streets and <br />highways into classes or systems according to the character of service they are intended to provide. <br />Table 8 lists the total miles of road for each route system within Sherburne County. <br />Table 8. MNDOTwill <br />remove the snow from state highways as well as disperse salt/sand as need. Township road <br />maintenance and snow removal is handled by each township. <br />Railways <br />The main line of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad from Chicago to Seattle passes <br />through Sherburne County. Amtrak runs on this line as well, though no stops are made within the <br />county (Sherburne County, 2019). <br />Navigable Waterways <br />This plan only references navigable waterways which are included in the U.S. Department of <br />Transportation/Bureau of Transportation Statistics' National Transportation Atlas Database. A general <br />definition of navigable waterways is defined by the US Army Corps of Engineers as, "...waters that are <br />Page131 <br />
