Cara <br />Population growth trends have an important influence on the needs and demands of a variety of <br />services such as transportation, law enforcement and emergency response. An understanding of <br />population trends and location of population concentrations is important for making projections <br />regarding potential impacts in the event of a disaster. <br />In 2010, Sherburne County had a population of 88,499, averaging 204 persons per square mile of land <br />area. Elk River, the largest city in the county and the county seat, had a population of 22,974. <br />Sherburne County's population has been rapidly increasing since 197o, rising 37%from 2000 to 2010. <br />Since 3.920, the population has increased by 83.7%. Figure 2 below shows the population change in <br />Sherburne County between 192o and 203.0. Population change by township from 2000to 2010 is <br />mapped in Figure A - 3 in Appendix A. <br />Page124 <br />
