2. Department Operations <br />A. Assists in planning, organizing, and administering the activities of the department. <br />B. Prepares work schedules. Maintains and enforces discipline. <br />C. Participates in personnel selection, development, and promotion. <br />D. Provides technical assistance and interprets policy. <br />E. Assists in establishing the goals and objectives of the department. Organizes the <br />departmental operations to meet goals and objectives. Evaluates the organizational structure <br />and methods of service delivery. Recommends changes as necessary. <br />F. Performs research and development for uniform fire reporting systems, physical fitness <br />training, day-to-day operations, safety, and other areas as required. <br />G. Responds to multi -alarm and other incidents. Assumes command as required. Coordinates <br />with other city agencies at incident scenes. <br />H. Reviews emergency response records and reports. Initiates changes and submits reports to <br />the state. <br />I. Assists the chief with special projects as assigned. Researches data essential for budget <br />preparation. Makes presentations to groups and organizations. <br />J. Acts in the absence of the fire chief. <br />K. Assumes command at fire scenes and directs the response teams. Serves as liaison between <br />the department and other city leaders during significant incidents. <br />L. Monitors expenses and looks for opportunities to drive greater cost efficiency. <br />M. Supervises all paid on -call officers and firefighters. <br />3. Department Training <br />A. Develops short- and long-term training plans to ensure adequate and well -trained response <br />to calls for the entire spectrum of emergency service calls. <br />B. Ensures all firefighters meet or exceed state and federal standards for their respective <br />positions. <br />C. Establishes department standards and policies related to training. Addresses individual or <br />team performance issues. <br />D. Facilitates significant incident debriefings, identifies areas of improvements, and implements <br />subsequent changes. <br />E. Develops short -and- long term objectives to ensure the long-term safety and education of <br />residents and business owners. <br />F. Develops annual training and prevention budgets, works collaboratively with command staff <br />on department budget and participates in the capital planning process. Negotiates contracts <br />for related services or materials on behalf of the department. <br />G. Develops fire department leadership by establishing training and officer enrichment goals <br />and objectives, monitoring performance, and providing regular feedback and coaching. <br />4. Performs other essential job duties. <br />A. Regular and timely work attendance. <br />B. Follows all safety procedures. <br />C.
