<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />May 1, 1961 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at Village Hall on May 1, 1961. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> Henry Johnson, Mayor; R.G. Kemper, Lars Larson, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. <br />Briggs, Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Johnson. <br /> <br />The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Kemper and seconded by Larson to have clerk write the Standard Oil Co <br />regarding an old well on their property that seems to be soaking up the oil and should be capped <br />before street surfacing is done. Motion carried. <br /> <br />The clerk was asked to put a notice in the paper that the dump will be open during May until 8 P.M. <br />on the regular days. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Also that there shall be no burning of rubbish <br />in the village during May until after 6 P.M. <br /> <br />A.E. Balow, Liquor Store Manager, asked that he be authorized to buy a beer cabinet at the Liquor <br />Store. The matter was tabled for the present. <br /> <br />Archie Larson, representing the Park Board was present. He suggested first: that the swimming <br />beach be kept open on Sunday this summer; second that weeds and grass be mowed more often; <br />third that steps be constructed from the lake to the bath house. The Council agreed to go along with <br />these suggestions as far as possible. <br /> <br />Les Derr says the village needs a new truck or that the old one should be thoroughly overhauled. He <br />will get prices on an overhaul job and new tires. <br /> <br />Les Derr will also get estimated cost of door in the Liquor Store building for truck storage. <br /> <br />Abe Johnon and Carl P. Philippi were present. They suggested that the village buildings be appraised <br />for insurance purposes. The Council agreed. <br /> <br />The Council decided to have the roof of the Municipal Building relocated and asked the clerk to <br />write the Allweather Roof Co to do the work. <br /> <br />The clerk was asked to write Welfare Board that the village will not pay for any more assistance for <br />Wesley Kluge, a copy of the letter to be sent to Mr. Kluge. <br /> <br />The following bills were approved and ordered paid: <br />George Moos – police 63.73 <br />Coast to Coast – fittings 1.44 <br />Bank of Elk River – Assess Bond 17.300 <br /> <br />
