Clark, spokesman for the delegation that were present stated that there were no other towns in <br />Minnesota which had two thru Highways running thru the town and the people on Main Street built <br />their homes on Main Street so they would not be on a Main Highway and that it was dangerous <br />running past a school as the school buses loaded and unloaded the school children. After a lengthy <br />discussion the following resolution was offered by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius. <br /> <br />Resolution of Village Council of Elk River. The Highway Department of Minnesota is hereby <br />requested to show cause for the unauthorized state and federal highway. Such use of highway has <br />not been requested of or authorized by the Village Council of Elk River and the use to which Main <br />Street has been put has aroused numerous protests on the part of Elk River citizens. The Highway <br />Department is therefore requested to attend a special meeting to be held at the Municipal Building <br />in the Village of Elk River on Nov 14, 1938 at 8 o’clock P.M. to consider cause for the continued <br />use of Main Street as a State and Federal highway.” <br /> <br />The said resolution was adopted by an unanimous vote and the Clerk was instructed to transmit to <br />the State Highway Dept copies of said petition and resolution and request that the said Highway <br />Dept have some official present at the Special Meeting called for Nov 14, 1938. <br /> <br />Joe Holzem presented an application for a building permit to build a garage. A motion was made by <br />G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to grant Joe Holzem a permit to build a garage. <br /> <br />Pete Thomas came before the Council asking to have the street in front of his house in upper town <br />graded. The matter was referred to Rupert Zimmer, road commissioner. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by Wm Patenaude to appoint the following judges <br />and clerks for the annual village election. Judges – J.C. Anderson, Wm Blocker, Frank Nogle, Clerks, <br />Irene Kaliher and Mrs. Eva Foley. <br /> <br />Mrs. Emma Booth was present and stated that she had been to see Miss Hoyt of the relief office <br />hoping to get work on a W.P.A. project but that Miss Hoyt told her to go back to where she had <br />been working. Mrs. Booth said she did not think she would be able to get her old job back again and <br />she did nee help. It was decided that the Council would talk this matter over with Miss Hoyt and see <br />what could be done for Mrs. Booth. <br /> <br />John Vicka presented an application for “on and off” sale non intoxicating malt liquor license. A <br />motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by Wm Patenaude to issue John Vicka the above said <br />license. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A.
