<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />April 4, 1938 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday April 4, 1938 at <br />8 o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />Frank Nickerson, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />By the request of Morris Wilson a motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to <br />appropriate $50.00 to the upkeep of the campgrounds. <br /> <br />Mr. Fisher, representing the Knott Co of Minneapolis came before the Council displaying a gas <br />mask for the Fire Dept. The matter was tabled. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to hire Harold Keays to take care <br />of the parks as he has in the previous years, at the same rate $10.00 a month for the Village Park. <br />$15.00 a month for the Houlton Memorial Park and also to put in flower beds and flowers in the <br />vases. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Gould Bros. of Monticello presented an application to build an oil station on Main Street next to the <br />Mississippi Bridge. A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to grant Gould <br />Bros a permit to build this Oil Station. <br /> <br />A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to grant building permits to <br />Odegard and Nickerson for an addition on to their garage. G.A. Bailey to build a private garage. Joe <br />Holzem to build a duplex. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A request from the Library for Venetian blinds was brought up. The clerk was instructed to tell the <br />Library board to find out the cost of these blinds before any should be purchased. <br /> <br />An application was presented by Orville Christensen for an “on and off” sale non-intoxicating malt <br />liquor license. A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Wm Patenaude to grant this <br />license to Orville Christensen. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey granting a renewal on the following <br />“on and off” sale non intoxicating malt liquor licenses. <br />Bares Café <br />John Kramer <br />Ida Burgoyne <br />Archie Johnston <br />Hovey’s Café <br />A.E.
