<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />February 7, 1938 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday Feb 7, 1938 at 8 <br />o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />Frank Nickerson, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />Joe Holzem came before the Council and asked permission to have his house moved to the lot next <br />to Joe Ludvicks. He stated he would put on asbestos shingles and fix the house according to the <br />requirements for places in the fire zone. A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo <br />Cornelius, to grant Mr. Joe Holzem this request. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A letter was read from the Library board stating that they were very much in need of a typewriter for <br />the Librarian and requested the Council to allow them to purchase one. A motion was made by G.A. <br />Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius authorizing the Library Board to buy a typewriter not to exceed <br />$30.00. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A petition was presented to the Council with approximately one hundred signers asking that the <br />Village Council use their influence to keep the truck highways running thru Elk River. The petition <br />was read and put on file. <br /> <br />Dr. Ellison, a physician at Monticello, report in regards to the physical examination of Leslie Laugley <br />was read and placed on file <br /> <br />The relief problem was discussed and it was thought best that the Village Council ask for a monthly <br />report from Miss Hoyt relief administrator stating the names and amount each relief client receives. <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed and a motion made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to <br />have the clerk pay them. <br />N.W. Bell Tele Co – tele rent 6.75 <br />E.R. Power and Lt Co – light and ower 235.35 <br />Star News – supplies 3.50 <br />Harold Sykes – school police 10.00 <br />Lee Slaback – labor 7.60 <br />Mrs. Ethel Lloyd – labor 1.50 <br />First Natl Bank – insurance 122.35 <br />Dr. F.E. Ellison – exam L. Laugley 5.00 <br />W.S. Noth Co – lanterns 6.44 <br />Odegard and Nickerson – supplies 2.00 <br />Henry Pratt – transportation 2.00 <br />Central Lbr Co – fuel 27.86 <br />St Paul Bk and Stationery – books 37.51 <br /> <br />
