<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />July 6, 1936 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday July 6, 1936 at <br />8:00 o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />J.D. Flaherty, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />A.L. Mitten, County Relief Administrator, came before the Council stating that it was his opinion <br />that the Village was obliged to pay Doctor bills for old age assistant clients especially in emergency <br />cases and wanted to stress the point that a council member could be held responsible if he turned <br />down a client for doctor care. After a discussion it was decided to see Frank White, Vill Attorney <br />before any further action would be taken. <br /> <br />Grace Rupprechl came before the Council stating that she has had her application with the Library <br />board for several years and as yet had not been called on for work. She said the present Librarian <br />lived out of the Village and thought that a person living in the Village was entitled to the job. The <br />matter was referred to the Library board. <br /> <br />Mr. Whitacre and Pollisters representing the R.B. Whitacre and Co of St Paul Jobbers for the Deau <br />Hill Rump Co of Anderson, Ind came before the Council offering a 325 gal centrifical pump for the <br />Village water Works with a 20 horse power motor for $418.00 J.O.B. Elk River. They stated the <br />pump the Village is using at the present time was made by the Deau Hill Pump Co and they would <br />furnish a very good pump at the above price. <br /> <br />After some discussion the Clerk was instructed to advertises for bids on the above described pump <br />and motor bids to be opened Monday July 13, 1936 at 8 o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Chas Babcock came before the Council stating that Mrs. Chase had spoken to him about the stop <br />sign in front of her house and asked to have it turned off at 11 o’clock each nite. A motion was <br />made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to have L.G. Nelson put in a switch and have it <br />turned off at 11 o’clock each night. <br /> <br />Wm Greupner, Clerk, stated that Mr. Fuetten, Mgr of the local creamery had spoken to him about <br />putting a light in back of the creamery. After some discussion it was decided that the creamery <br />would have to put in their own light being it was their own property. <br /> <br />Leo Demars asked for a permit to move a building that he owns on the Hasting addition to his <br />property he had purchased on Thomas St. A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo <br />Cornelius to grant Leo Demars this permit. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to pay $250.00 second note on the <br />fire truck. Motion carried. <br /> <br />
