VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
January 7, 1935

The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg. Monday Jan 7, 1935 at
8 o’clock P.M.

Present: D.E. Davis, Pres.; J.D. Flaherty, Geo. Cornelius, Wm. Patenaude, Trustees;
Wm H. Greupner, Clerk.

Visitors: A.E. Eklund, Myron Tesch and Mrs. Jerome Johnson.

Mrs. Jerome Johnson came before the Council stating that she had tripped on a hole in the sidewalk
in front of the Gamble Store on May 7, 1934. She turned her ankle and broke a bone in her foot so
she thought the Village should pay her $500.00 compensation. After some discussion the matter was
layed \[sic\] on the table until the next meeting. The Clerk and Mayor were asked to investigate this
accident.

A.E. Eklund and M. Tesch came before the Council asking the Village of Elk River to lease the Golf
Course for one year or less. They stated that the way it was run at the present time made the cost
too high on account of the Labor. If the Village had a lease a project could be presented whereas the
relief workers could work on the course and cut down that expense. After some discussion the
Council was in favor of leasing the Golf Course providing It would not be any expense to the
Village.

Joe Flaherty reported that he had seen L.G. Nelson in regards to \[word missing?\] the Council was
petitioned for, located on the first curve No. of the Great Northern spur on the Meadowvale road.
Mr. Nelson told him that he had written to the Company and the best they could do would be to bill
the Village for one third of the cost for installing this light, which would be around $30.00. After
some discussion it was decided to have the Clerk write to the Company and ask them if they would
not stand all the expense of the installing.

rd
Frank White having been elected Justice of Peace at the Village election held Nov. 3 did not qualify
so the Council found it necessary to appoint some one in his place. Joe Flaherty made a motion,
seconded by Geo. Cornelius and carried to appoint Henry Pfeiffer as Justice of Peace in place of
Frank White.

A motion was made by Wm. Greupner, seconded by Geo. Cornelius and carried to accept Mr.
Pfeiffers bond of $500.00.

Wm. H. Greupner, Clerk presented his bond of $500.00. A motion was made by Joe Flaherty,
seconded by Geo. Cornelius and carried to accept the Clerks bond.

Chas M. Nelson presented his application for reappointment as Village Marshall for the Village of
Elk River for the ensuing year. A motion was made by Geo. Cornelius seconded by J.D. Flaherty
and carried that Mr. Nelson be rehired for the year 1935.

A letter was read from the League of Municipalities asking for an extra assessment of $5.00, 20% of
the regular dues, to take care of the extra expenses they would have presenting bills to the state
