<br />The Elk River Vision <br />A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional <br />service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity <br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To <br />Public Art Subcommittee <br />Item Number <br />4.1 <br />Agenda Section <br />General Business <br />Meeting Date <br />March 10, 2020 <br />Prepared by <br />Amanda Othoudt, ED Director <br />Item Description <br />Public Art Proposal <br />Reviewed by <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Provide a recommendation to the EDA for a public art proposal. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />At the Public Art Subcommittee’s February 18, 2020, meeting, Matthew Coppersmith of Coppersmith <br />Customs presented his final public art mockup to the committee. <br /> <br />The art location, in front of Granite Shores, was identified which is the same place the soup ladle was located. <br />The property owner agreed to the location, however, is requiring engineered plans as the location sits above <br />the underground parking lot. <br /> <br />The Subcommittee was not comfortable moving forward with the project due to concerns with the lack of <br />engineering plans and variations in the artists dimensions. They recommended to table the discussion until <br />the plans are complete. <br /> <br />After conversations with the artist, he retracted his proposal and would like to resubmit something <br />completely different. <br /> <br />Staff is requesting that the subcommittee provide a recommendation to the EDA on whether they would like <br />to resubmit the Public Art RFP and call for artists. <br /> <br />The next deadline for a grant submittal has not been released yet but will likely be in August. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br />The EDA budgeted $5,000 in 2020 as a matching grant for a public art installation at their June 17, 2019, <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> Public Art RFP
