<br /> <br /> 45 <br />January 2020 <br /> <br /> <br />LEAVES OF ABSENCE <br /> <br />The Utilities provides leaves of absence according to the following policies. Unless <br />otherwise indicated, all leaves of absence are unpaid. However, employees taking unpaid <br />leave are required to concurrently use any paid vacation or other paid time they have <br />available concurrently with their unpaid leave, beginning with using accrued paid vacation <br />time. <br /> <br />An employee requesting a leave of absence must complete a Request for Leave of Absence <br />form. Forms for requesting a leave of absence are available from the Human Resources <br />Representative. When possible, advance notice of a leave should be provided to an <br />employee’s supervisor so work schedules can be adjusted accordingly. <br /> <br /> <br />52. PARENTING LEAVE <br /> <br />Under the Minnesota Parental Leave Act, a Minnesota employee who has worked for the <br />Utilities for at least 12 months and who has worked at least one-half (1/2) time during the <br />twelve (12) months preceding a leave is entitled to take up to twelve (12) weeks of unpaid <br />leave as follows: <br />• An eligible biological or adoptive parent make take such leave for the birth or <br />adoption of a child; and <br />• An eligible female employee may take such leave for prenatal care or incapacity <br />due to pregnancy, childbirth, or related health conditions. <br />An employee requesting parental leave must give the Utilities at least thirty (30) days <br />advance notice of the start and end dates of the requested leave, unless such notice is not <br />possible due to legitimate unanticipated factors in which case as much notice as is possible <br />should be given. For a leave for the birth or adoption of a child, the leave must begin within <br />either 12 months of the birth or adoption or, if the child must remain in the hospital longer <br />than the mother, within 12 months of the child leaving the hospital. <br />Insurance benefits will continue during the leave, but the employee must pay his or her <br />portion of the premiums during the leave and will be required to reimburse the Company <br />for premiums paid by the Company during the leave if the employee does not return to <br />work following the leave. <br />If any employee is eligible for parental leave under both the FMLA and the MN Parental <br />Leave Act, the parental leave time taken under the Company’s FMLA leave policy will run <br />concurrently with time taken under this policy. <br />132
